Aerclouds are blocks commonly found in The Aether. They spawn in long, cloudlike formations. When falling, landing on Cold Aerclouds will prevent falling damage. When standing on a column of Aerclouds, your body will be inside the top block, and your feet will be standing on the block below it, as seen on the picture. You can also "climb" on Aercloud blocks, even though it may seem like you are sinking while traveling over Aerclouds, as long as the block you want to climb isn't higher than one block over the block you are currently standing in.

Aercloud does not require any tool to be obtained, in which when mined, it will drop itself.
The other five types of Aercloud are Blue, Gold, Green, Purple and Storm Aerclouds. They can all be found in natural formations across The Aether. Each of the different types of Aerclouds have their own special abilities and will also prevent falling damage when you land on them. Some of the Aerclouds also do not have hitboxes. The reason for that is most likely because the hitboxes wouldn't matter much as upon touching the cloud the player will have something done to it. This makes it possible for people to jump up to the cloud (Or be shot up with the help of a Blue Aercloud) from below and, depending on the cloud, be shot up further or be shot towards a different direction.

Cold Aerclouds will prevent fall damage, and when standing in a column of aerclouds, the player's body will be inside the topmost block while the feet will be standing on the block below it. Despite that, aerclouds still can be climbed, as long as the height difference isn't over one block.

  +
Some of the aerclouds do not have hitboxes. Dropped blocks and/or items may get stuck inside of cold aercloud blocks. As Cold Aerclouds sometimes blend in with the normal Overworld clouds, turning those off is advised. Sneaking (hold down the left Shift key) will disable special aercloud abilities.
Cold and Golden Aerclouds can be crafted into Cloud Parachutes, which will slow your falling speed when used.

*As of the 1.6.2 update, Aercloud Parachutes can now be crafted, and they come in various types, which will have several diferent effects, such as launching the player upwards and making or make him glide faster.

Cold Aerclouds
Cold Aercloud is the most common type of Aercloud found in The Aether. Long strips of it can be found in the formations of clouds. It will always prevent fall damage and, as of The Aether II Alpha, can no longer be crafted into Cloud Parachute.

As of the v1.02 update, Cold Aerclouds can be frozen into Blue Aerclouds by using the Freezer.

When gathering Cold Aerclouds, the dropped blocks often get stuck in other Aercloud blocks surrounding them.

Getting as close as possible to the drop or just destroying the block containing the drops should solve this.

As Cold Aerclouds sometimes blend in with the normal Overworld clouds, turning those off is advised.

Blue Aerclouds are slightly harder to find than Cold Aerclouds, and bounce mobs when coming into contact. Players and drops are bounced as well. However, the block bounces you up 15 blocks in the air, so falling from this height is not a very good idea. If you sneak, you will not bounce and take fall damage. When falling onto this block with any solid block underneath, you will still take the fall damage. Use Cold Aerclouds/Blue Aerclouds as safety nets. As of the 1.02 update, Blue Aerclouds have taken on a more cyan color.

  +
Blue Aercloud
These Clouds should be approached with caution. If you are not careful, you can find yourself flying up into the air and then falling back down and dying. However, to veteran players, these clouds can be used as a means of transportation. You can use it to get high enough and then use an Aerbunny, Cloud Parachute, or Golden Feather to safely land.

Golden Aerclouds are the rarest, and will send any players, mobs, or drops downwards at a high speed when touched. This makes them extremely dangerous to obtain in large quantities. Having Gravitite Armor equipped, a Golden Feather, or a Cloud Parachute will negate this property. Golden Aerclouds do not seem to generate around surface level, making them only slightly common above average island height.

In the original The Aether mod, four Golden Aerclouds were used to craft one Golden Parachute. They had 20 uses (technically 21, if counting from zero) unlike Cold Cloud ones.

Golden Aerclouds
Golden Aerclouds are one of the rarest type of Aerclouds. In The Aether II: Genesis of the Void Alpha update, Golden Aerclouds will send you or any items downwards at high speed when touched, making them very dificult to gather and quite dangerous to stay around (A net of blocks can be used to counteract this). One should be careful when gathering this type of Aercloud, as if she/he unintentionally touches this block, s/he will fall and most likely die due to fall damage or falling to the Overworld. One way to counter this effect is to have either Gravitite Armor or a Golden Feather equipped, or by having a Cloud Parachute. They can be used to craft golden parachutes now, in The Aether II. In The Aether, four Golden Aerclouds were used to craft 20 Golden Parachutes.

Much like Purple Aerclouds, Green Aerclouds will blow players or items that make contact with them. However, it blows them in a random direction regardless of which direction you have placed it in.

Green Aerclouds, like purple, will blow any players, mobs, or drops touching them, but instead in a random horizontal direction. This is by far the hardest Aercloud to collect, as upon breaking the clouds the neighboring block will blow it into a random horizontal direction. It spawning near islands does help a lot when you need it, however.

Storm Aerclouds are a new type of aercloud added in the Aether II. They have the same properties as Cold Aerclouds. Storm Aercloud can not be crafted into parachutes.
Purple Aerclouds are found in cloud formations just like other Aerclouds. What makes these Aerclouds unique is that Purple Aerclouds can blow items in a specific direction. When placed, they blow items opposite of the direction that you were standing in when you placed them.

Purple Aerclouds blow any players, mobs, or drops in a specific direction, depending on the direction the player was standing in when placed. Like green aerclouds, gathering them can be difficult, as the wind push can cause fall damage or dropping out of the Aether and into the void below. A safety net of blocks can be used to counteract this.

  +
Crafting ingredient
It is advised to be careful when gathering these blocks, as one will be pushed away in the direction the wind is blowing if s/he touches this block, often causing death by fall damage. These are also, notably, the hardest ones to be acquired (after one has found them) as the neighboring Purple Aercloud blocks will blow the dropped ones away from the player. A net of blocks can be used to counteract this.

*It is possible to place Cold Aerclouds to break one's fall from a high drop (right before they hit the ground), but the timing is difficult to get right before taking fall damage.
*When harvesting Cold Aerclouds, dropped blocks often get stuck inside other Aercloud blocks. This can make it hard to obtain certain dropped blocks that are stuck inside others. The best way is to mine under the Aercloud or mine while standing on top of it.

  +
*You can ignore all Aerclouds' special abilities by holding shift when you walk on them. They will work like a Cold Aercloud would, negating fall damage.

“Found in clouds. Stops fall damage when landed on”
Book of Lore

Aercloud is a type of block found in abundance in the Aether.

Obtaining

Aercloud does not require any tool to be obtained, in which when mined, it will drop itself.

Natural generation

It can be found in the sky, even very close to islands, and obviously, forms clouds in the Aether. Since it also may generate under islands, this makes it useful to both stop fall damage and help create mining scaffolds under islands.

In 1.10[upcoming], it now generates as a blanket of Cold Aerclouds covering the bottom of the Aether and Green now generate in Jungles and Storm now generate in Crystal sub-biomes.

Usage

Cold Aerclouds will prevent fall damage, and when standing in a column of aerclouds, the player's body will be inside the topmost block while the feet will be standing on the block below it. Despite that, aerclouds still can be climbed, as long as the height difference isn't over one block.

Blue Aercloud

BlueA
Blue Aerclouds are uncommon, and will bounce players, mobs, and drops high into the air when stepped on or touched, but the player must be careful not to take fall damage from the high jump. The max jump height from a blue aercloud is 15 vertical blocks. You can use it to get high enough and then use an Aerbunny, or Cold Cloud Parachute to safely land.
