Crafting is the means by which many items, tools and ingredients are made in both Minecraft and the Aether mod. Things are crafted by moving items from the inventory to a crafting grid. A 2x2 grid can be accessed from one's inventory, while a 3x3 grid can be utilized by right-clicking a Skyroot Crafting Table.

The arrangement of some ingredients for recipes is unimportant and is freeform, allowing the player to use any square on the grid to craft it, while there also is shaped recipes. Shaped recipes require their ingredients to be in specific grid slots, such as for a Skyroot Pickaxe. Unless a recipe is highly specific (such as pickaxes or bread), shapeless recipes can be made using any row or column of the grid. Highly specific recipes are known as fixed recipes. Certain recipes can be flipped horizontally and still craft successfully, such as a Bow.

Players will always have access to the 2x2 grid in their inventory GUI, and can be used as long as the GUI is up. Any recipe that is 2x2 in size can be made there. Examples are planks, most shapeless recipes, and single item recipes. To craft items using a 3x3 grid, craft a Skyroot Crafting table, place it, and then right-click. This will bring up a 3x3 crafting grid where the player can make any crafting recipe in the game, whether in vanilla Minecraft or in the Aether.
